The number of “very free” teachers has been growing since 2024, when 22% were identified as “very free” and 48% were “some liberals.” But 63% of the figures are below the 70% of the figures identified as liberals in 2024 and continue the recent trend. In 2023, more than 75% were identified as liberals, and in 2022, more than 82% did.
In 2024, teachers without arts and science reported being “very conservative”, but in 2025, 1% of arts and science teachers said they were “very conservative”.
The survey, which opened from April 23 to May 12, was sent to “1,400 faculty, including lifelong and non-lifelong track teachers and collected names from the FAS’s public headers. The teachers were asked about demographic information, political, political and campus issues” and received 406 responses.

The survey was provided by student newspapers to more than 1,400 faculty and staff. (iStock)
