Now, we have to lower the temperature. We can’t compare people to such numbers in history. It’s not a dictator. It’s a product of democratic elections.”

“So, do you think Trump will not break any norms of democracy in any way at all?” Raju asked.

“I mean he’s absolutely different, but that’s what the American voted for,” Fettman replied. “Again, I disagree with many of these things, but that doesn’t make him a dictator.”

Although Fetterman often criticizes all aspects of the Democratic Party, he told Raju that he would never change his party label while lamenting how the Democratic Party “lost its argument.”

“Now, I think real honesty is perfectly appropriate, just figuring out why we’ve effectively lost two things in the last three cycles, and that’s perfectly appropriate,” Fetterman said. “We’ve really lost connections with American voters with connections to American voters. I don’t think we can just ‘well, Trump is always wrong,’ or ‘we’re going to put this country on fire or anything else. Of course, that’s not true either.”

He continued: “But when I represent a state like Pennsylvania, you can keep you honest. You can always not forget that many Americans happen to disagree with you. That doesn’t mean they are fascists, or now they want to chop up the constitution.”

After law enforcement reports that Kirk’s death sparked national conversations about political rhetoric, law enforcement reports that bullet shells found near the scene carry anti-fascist information.
