A federal judge in Massachusetts ruled Friday Tufts University Graduate Medicine Türkiye, which was detained this week, cannot be deported without a court order.
University president Sunil Kumar confirmed that 30-year-old international student Rumeysa Ozturk was detained by federal authorities near the Somerville off-campus apartment building.
U.S. District Court Judge Denise Casper ruled Friday that the government must respond to Oztuk’s latest complaint on Tuesday, i.e. Associated Press Report.
“In order to allow the court to rule on the petition for a resolution on its jurisdiction, Ozturk will not be allowed to evacuate from the United States until further orders of this court.”

A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Ozturk said he was transferred to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Louisiana, and her attorney was then able to obtain a judge’s order.
The university said “no prediction of the incident nor did it share any information with federal authorities before the event” but confirmed her visa had been terminated.

Ozturk wrote a column in Tufts every day last year to make the university react to Israel’s war in Gaza, the Associated Press reported.
The report said the album called on the school to “recognize the Palestinian genocide” and to make financial decisions based on the entity’s direct or indirect relationship with Israel.

Ozturk is just one of many college students who were detained by ICE last week.
University of Minnesota President Rebecca Cunningham wrote to students, faculty and staff on Friday confirming that an international graduate student was detained in an off-campus house near his Twin Cities campus on Thursday.
Cunningham called the situation “deeply concerned” and “pointed that the university had no prior knowledge of the incident and did not share any information with federal authorities before it occurred. ”
She added that it is important to “not strengthen federal immigration laws and our officials do not ask about individual immigration status, which is important.

Minneapolis City Councilman Robin Wonsley said in a statement Friday that she was “unset” about the detainees and said a rally would be held to oppose what she called “Trump attack.”
“This frightening reality emphasizes the need for the city of Minneapolis, the University of Minnesota and all local governments clearly, explicitly condemns the cruel and racist attacks of the Trump administration and devotes resources to protecting vulnerable groups,” Wansley wrote.
Wansley added that she asked Minneapolis Police Department leaders to “establish clear standards of discipline Any officer Who violated the city’s separation regulations and used its position to enforce immigration laws. ”

Minneapolis Mayor and St. Paul Melvin Carter recently reiterated their sanctuary city stance to not help the ice with any demolition.
The University of Minnesota and Ice St. Paul did not immediately respond to Fox News inquiries.
