Kirk Cousins Time with the Atlanta Falcons has not yet expired.
ESPN said the Falcons intend to honor the quarterback’s $10 million roster bonus. If the cousins are after 4 p.m. Saturday, payments will trigger the Atlanta list.
The cousins were ahead of Atlanta’s Week 16 game against the New York Giants last season.
The move came after Cousins struggled, throwing nine interceptions in five games. Last December, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris confirmed the team’s plan, Michael Penix being the “forward quarterback” plan.

Cousins signed a four-year, $180 million contract in March 2024. The deal includes a $90 million guarantee and a $10 million lineup bonus that will be paid on March 17. The team made a shocking decision to use the NFL No. 8 pick in the NFL draft. Michael Penixafter six weeks of salute to the cousins.
While the marriage between the cousins and the Falcons seems destined to be a divorce, Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot said the organization was “comfortable” and the 36-year-old remains on the team and supports Penix.

“We are very willing to move forward with (cousin) as a backup,” Fontenott says In January. “Kirke is a great man and he has always provided great support for Mike. We’re happy to be with him as a backup.”

While the sincerity of Fontenot’s remarks is still under debate, the decision to temporarily put four-time professional bowlers at least makes it possible for the quarterback to wear the Falcons uniform in 2025.
According to Sports Illustrated, the cousins met with Falcons owner Arthur Blank last week and asked for a chance to switch him to the team next season.

However, the blank and Falcon May do things in the best interest of the franchise. Any organization’s decisions have financial implications.
The cousins owe $27.5 million next season, whether he plays for the Falcons in 2025 or not. This $10 million bonus applies to the 2026 season. Cutting off relations with cousins and designating the deal as a release after June 1 will allow Atlanta to spread the salary cap within two years.

Since the Falcons choose to stick with their cousins, at least so far, the front desk may use the extra time to find a team willing to agree to the deal. If trade does come true, the cousin will be given the final right to decide on his dispatch, as his contract includes no trade terms.
