New York Helicopter Charter Company A helicopter that the company operated last week crashed on the Hudson River, killing a family of five and pilots, was rooted through emergency orders from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The FAA’s decision comes after the helicopter company fired its operations director after it decided to close the flight.
“The FAA took this action in part because the company’s operations director voluntarily shut down the flight and he was fired,” the FAA said in a statement.

The FAA also announced that it would complete a comprehensive review of the company’s business.
“The review, known as the Certificate Holder Assessment Program (CHEP), determines whether an operator complies with applicable regulations and effectively manages safety, and determines hazards and risks so that FAA and operators can mitigate them,” the agency said.
FAA previously announced that it will continue to support National Transportation Safety Commission (NTSB) investigation into the crash, and also conducted an immediate review of travel agency licenses and safety records.

“The FAA has analyzed aircraft/helicopter hotspots nationwide and we will host a helicopter safety panel on April 22 to discuss the findings, risks and other mitigation options,” the FAA added. “Safety is the FAA’s top priority and we will not hesitate to take action to protect the flying public.”

The pilot and Siemens executive Agustin Escobar; his wife Mercè Camprubí Montal; their three children were pulled out of the water by divers and pronounced dead.
The suspension of the New York helicopter charter will remain in place until necessary personnel and safety protocols are made.
The company was also told to surrender its airline certificate to await the results of the FAA review.
