Exclusive – After President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” Tariff AnnouncementA top Republican leader is pushing Congress to expand the president’s 2017 tax cuts, which he said is the next “top priority” for Republicans.
The passage of the Tax Cuts and Employment Act 2017 (TCJA) was the first major legislative victory of the Trump administration, representing one of the most important achievements of his tenure.
Now, after Senate A resolution was passed Saturday night to establish a process known as a settlement to bypass any potential democratic lawsuits, which depends on the House to achieve the next step to make the cut permanent.
Tom Emmer, the majority whip who represents Minnesota and serves as one of the most influential roles in the House, told Fox News Digital that extending Trump’s 2017 tax cuts was one of the party’s main priorities in Congress and the White House.
Emmer is having a roundtable discussion with Trump’s Treasury Secretary Scott BessentJay Timmons, CEO of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), and other manufacturing leaders from all over the country discussed the importance of consolidating cuts now.
According to Emmer’s office, the roundtable discussion will also focus on Financial Literacy Month and highlight the need to provide tools for economic success for all Americans.

Emmer’s office told Fox News Digital that the roundtable will focus on the importance of cutting 2017 tax cuts as Congress passes settlements.
The settlement is a way to solve quick legislation on issues such as taxes, debt limits, and federal spending by bypassing the Senate’s 60 vote pass threshold, rather than lowering it to a simple 51 vote.
“After Liberation Day, people are eager to take more action to put American workers, businesses and production first,” an Emmer representative said in a statement. “Continuing to cut Trump’s taxes is doing so, and this discussion will demonstrate the urgency and importance of completing taxes.”
Key aspects of the manufacturing-related tax cuts will be sunset at the end of the year. If that happens, it will result in “the biggest tax hike in U.S. history.”

House Republicans and Trump administration Know that Americans have high stakes in tax reform. ” said the representative.
Emmer’s office points to a NAM study that found that sunsets at the end of 2025 on these tax reforms will result in 6 million jobs in the U.S., including more than 1.1 million manufacturing jobs, as well as $540 billion in lost wages and $1.089 billion in lost GDP.
Although Trump’s tariff policy focuses on improving U.S. productivity and manufacturing, the study shows that if Congress fails to expand its cuts, it will be placed in a non-competitive international tax system, which is “reluctant to the ability of U.S. investors and shrinking manufacturers to compete on the world stage.”
NAM CEO Jay Timmons told Fox News Digital that he called on Congress to permanently reduce tax reforms in Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, saying: “No action every day will damage manufacturers’ ability to invest in the U.S. and plan for the future.”

“The current economic situation makes tax reform more urgent in 2017,” Timmons said. “The passage of the original law has inspired job creation, wage growth and investment nationwide. As a result, manufacturers keep our promises by expanding operations, increasing wages and benefits, and businesses hired at record levels. But now the key provisions are out of date, and others will expire by the end of the year.”
“It’s time to make these reforms permanent and more competitive,” he added. “When manufacturing wins, the United States wins.”
Emmer told Fox News Digital that expanding tax reform is “a top priority for House Republicans, the Trump administration and U.S. manufacturers.”
“The American people yearn for the economic prosperity that is already underway,” he said. “But [it] It will be fully aware that it will only be possible if Congress takes action to continue to cut taxes through reconciliation. ”
