“Our office will actively take prosecution of computer hackers to protect our citizens’ private accounts,” U.S. attorney Julie Beck said in a statement. “We are ready to work with law enforcement partners to deliver justice to those who illegally infringe on the privacy of others.”

Weiss is accused of committing a so-called crime from 2015 to January 2023.
According to the indictment, Weiss “gained unauthorized access to student-athletes databases of more than 100 universities and universities maintained by third-party vendors.” He allegedly downloaded personal information and data from more than 150,000 athletes, and from there, Weiss was able to access information from more than 2,000 athletes, including access to its social media, email and cloud storage.

Weiss is accused of using the information to download “personal, intimate digital photos and videos that are never intended to surpass intimate partners,” prosecutors said.
“Today’s prosecution of Matthew Weiss underscores the commitment and meticulous investigation of our law enforcement professionals,” FBI agent Cheyvoryea Gibson said in a statement.
“The FBI Detroit Cyber Task Force works closely with the University of Michigan Police Department to work tirelessly on this case to protect and protect our communities.”

Weiss faces 14 counts of unauthorized access to a computer and 10 counts of aggravated identity theft. He charged him with up to five years in prison for unauthorized visits, with each count of identity theft for up to two years.
