Conservatives and right-wing populists warn that EU initiatives could become state-controlled rhetoric police.
European Center for Democratic Resilience Advocated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyenis being sold as a fortress against the movement to influence Russia.
“We will build a new European center of democratic resilience,” Ms. Von der Leyen said in an ITU speech on Tuesday. Her manifesto immediately encountered jokes and hisses from conservatives and populists in the audience.
“You are obviously worried about this new center,” the 66-year-old German said, who paused to return to the chamber for etiquette, but the false information “is so dangerous to our democracy because informed citizens can believe what they read and hear is essential to keeping these people accountable for their power.”
She promised that the next EU budget would include funding for anti-propaganda efforts and similar media initiatives, especially for those living in the “news desert.”
Even critics acknowledge the serious threat posed by Russian false information, but many fear that the initiative will cause more harm than good or waste. Some believe that national governments or NATO may be better at coping with hostile influence movements.
Proponents believe that European-wide approaches are necessary to address increasingly mature challenges. Government efforts to tackle new threats in deep bursts, AI-generated content and micro-targeted impact efforts that completely bypass traditional gatekeepers.
“I fully support this,” said Sandro Gozi, a member of the European Parliament and Secretary-General of the European Democratic Party. “We must do this quickly within the framework of our European Democratic Shield Strategy. It’s urgent.”
Ms. von Dier Ryan’s The plan is part of her broader European Democratic Shield strategy, which calls for a “full” approach to combating false information. However, this language can be shocking amid the scars of communist and fascist censorship in many European countries.
“Anti-foreign false information must never be an excuse to disagree with those who disagree,” said Vijay Monany, deputy secretary-general of the sovereign state populist Europe. “Europe should defend open debate, not establish the Ministry of Truth.”
He noted that the struggle against “false information” or “foreign interference” is often used as an excuse to limit debate, limit free expression and silence the voices of objections and opposition. He also made it clear that Europe in sovereign states supports powerful actions against foreign intervention and criminal information operations.
One of the most prominent members of the sovereign state is a replacement for Germany, known for its hawkish views on immigration. Right-wing parties have multiple ESN groups within the European Parliament and lead the polls in Germany. For AFD critics, this is an extreme extreme party that was previously labeled by the German government.
Netzdg is a law enacted in Germany in 2017 to combat disinformation and continues to be political football.
The law stipulates that platforms delete hateful content within 24 hours in some cases, or face legal action. In 2021, Google filed a lawsuit against the law. The U.S. Department of Defense said the effort was too adapted to its disadvantages.
Last year, Spain’s socialist government developed a plan to stop the spread of “fake news”, which was immediately criticized by the Spanish traditional Conservative opposition BJP.
Now Ms. von der Leyen’s plan puts conservatives on the edge.
“At present, the details are inaccurate.
“But this is certainly intentional, as the EU’s work to combat disinformation is a sensitive issue, especially for MPs from the former Soviet bloc, many of whom found the idea of authorities acting in the field unacceptable, especially, especially, sometimes, the situation is selective and selective and biased against conservatives.”

“Obviously, we will continue to align with Europe,” Vance later said. “But I do think the strength of these alliances will depend on whether we are moving society in the right direction.”
European elections are approaching among several countries and ladies. Von der Leyen Approval ratings slipped in a poll and Brussels was walking a tightrope in an attempt to resist vicious influence without eroding its freedom and democracy seeking protection.
