Data from the Government Ethics Office shows that special government employees can “no more than 130 days in the federal government” in the federal government. Musk’s 130-day time range begins with the inauguration and is scheduled to dry on May 30.
Doge is a temporary inter-departmental organization designed to reduce and simplify the federal government. The group itself will be dissolved on July 4, 2026, according to Trump’s executive order.
Musk and Trump have previously predicted that Musk’s role is temporary and will end in the spring.

“I think he’s great. But I also think he has a big company to run,” Trump said in March. “So at some point, he’s going back.”
“As long as I can keep him, I will keep him,” Trump said. The president added: “He’s a very talented person. You know, I love very smart people. He’s smart. He’s doing a great job.” “The Governor is, the numbers we found are no one who can even believe.”
Musk recently said he will take a step back on the Tesla tax call on April 22.

“But starting next month, I will be allocating more time to Tesla, as the main work to establish the Ministry of Efficiency has been completed,” he added.
The billionaire and its company were protested in a partnership between Musk and Doge, Democrats and activists, including working on Tank Tesla Stocks.

Gleason previously worked for the US Digital Services, a service founded in 2014 by former President Barack Obama as the technology office within the president’s executive office. Trump signed an executive order in January to rename the office to U.S. threshold service and to establish a church.
Although Musk has been a public face for Doge, he “has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions by himself” and is serving as a senior adviser to the president, White House officials said in another court in February.
