[February231945[1945年2月23日，Six Marines Cooperation has become one of the most iconic photos in American history.
Marines fought on Iwo Jima, Jima scaled Mount Suribachi and worked together to lift the American flag, a moment captured by military photographers and later became an Allied defeat of Nazi Germany and The lasting symbol of the empire Japan Second World War.
According to a report from the Department of Defense, the Marines initially invaded Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945 as part of the U.S. island jumping campaign and took four days to get the Suribaki Summit.

“The 554-foot hill is important because it suppresses the fires of the Japanese dug out and has advantages in much of the island,” the Defense Ministry report reads.
The battle on the island continued until March 26, resulting in casualties or deaths of about 27,000 Marines and sailors.
The brutal battle also resulted in the deaths of 21,000 Japanese soldiers who defended the island through a series of caves, tunnels and pill boxes.

However, the photos from four days into the battle remained their lasting image, spreading rapidly around the world and becoming a powerful recruitment and morale tool for the U.S. government.
“This photo is at the heart of the War Bond poster,” the Pulitzer Prize Committee wrote in its online account of the image.
