In department-wide emails, First reported by Politico Employees in the Education Department were offered a one-time acquisition and ended on Monday at 11:59 to accept or reject the deal.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Education shared in a statement with Fox News Digital.
“This is a one-time proposal before the U.S. Department of Education’s power has been drastically reduced,” Chief Human Capital Officer Jacqueline Clay said in an email.

Clay explained that the expenditure would be “equivalent to severance payment or $25,000, whichever is less.”
The store reports that most department employees are eligible for the acquisition, with a few exceptions. Persons excluded from this offer include anyone who retires with disabilities and who have received student loan repayment benefits in the past 36 months, or who have received a retention bonus in the past 12 months.
According to the email, the proposal will take effect on March 31.
The department’s proposal is set to be confirmed by President Trump’s Education Secretary Draft Secretary Linda McMahon.

“It’s a big job,” Trump said earlier. “They rank the top countries in the world. We rank 40th, but we rank 1st, and rank 1st: cost per student. So, we spend more per student than any other country in the world, but we rank 40th.”
Trump recently said that if McMahon is confirmed, he hopes she “removed herself from work.”
While the complete elimination of the education sector would adopt a Congressional bill, the agency has been modified in other ways as nearly $1 billion of contracts were cancelled.

Back in February, the department confirmed that it had cancelled nearly $350 million in “wake up” spending, allegedly addressing the most pressing issues of education policy and practice.
The agency canceled 10 contracts with the Regional Education Laboratory (RER), totaling $336 million, after reviewing contracts that “wasteful and ideologically driven spending is not for the benefit of students and taxpayers,” the release said.

It is not clear whether the cuts are related to Ministry of Government Efficiency Cut down activities related to DEI in the education sector.
