Authorities look for person with gas can after two fires reported in Chinatown

Two fires were reportedly reported in 15 minutes near Chinatown in Los Angeles, with a fire between each other Wednesday morning, and authorities said they were investigating reports of a person with gas tanks.

Lyndsey Lantz, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, said two fires were reported on North Broadway.

The first fire was released within 14 minutes and outside the two-story building of Broadway Food, 913 North Broadway. LAPD officer David Cuellar said officers also responded to the scene after receiving a report from a person driving a gasoline can.

But when police arrived, no one noticed it.

The second fire was reportedly at the Hong Ning grocery store at 827 North Broadway at 2:15 a.m. According to LAFD, the fire was put out in nine minutes. Police responded to the fire shortly after 3 a.m. but were unable to find the suspect.

The cause of each fire is underway and there is no immediate description of the suspect.
