UN Secretary-General António Guterres, deputy spokesman Farhan Haq, told Fox News Digital that UNDSS received about $20 million last year only from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). “USID told us that some of the funds have been terminated; other projects will continue to provide support from AID,” he said.
Dawoh’s email suggests that UNDS’s funding losses were related to cutting additional resources, but Hack said: “The additional budget is available.” Funding from USAID is a relatively small proportion of the sector’s budget, most of which comes from the regular budget of the United Nations, a cost-sharing mechanism and peace support accounts. ”
According to HAQ, UNDS has 2,250 personnel worldwide, “supports the security of 180,000 UN personnel operations and achieves security of operations.” Hack added: “Most of the workforce in the sector is in this field, headquartered in New York. The UN personnel serving in the most dangerous places in the world should be effectively safe when saving lives.”
