The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) helped the U.S. Coast Guard save $32.7 million by eliminating an “ineffective IT program” called Logistics Information Management System (CG-LIMS), the Department of Homeland Security confirmed to Fox News Digital.

The USCG continues to deliver the president’s priority while improving its efficiency while ensuring our borders and sea approach.”
CG-LIM is initially expected to begin operations in 2027 and reach full capacity by 2031, and is expected to integrate existing and future capabilities with the Coast Guard while supporting operations.

CG-LIM will also be used for 245 knives, 200 aircraft, 1,800 ships, coast-based systems, navigation equipment and command, control, communications, computers, networks, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance equipment.
But starting from May 1, 2025, all planned activities on CG-LIM will end.
According to the Coast Guard, the termination is the result of the plan not meeting its full requirements in the near future.
Military service said $32.7 million in savings would be used to “meet emerging Coast Guard needs.” It says.

The Coast Guard said it will continue to look for alternatives to address gaps in IT logistics and implement the necessary functions envisioned by the service.

Coast Guard says FD 2028 focuses on people, organizations, signing and Acquisition and technology. It has also been described as a “generation-by-generation” effort to investigate and change the Coast Guard in order to adapt to the current and future environment.
