The Cubs and Dodgers kicked off the Major League Baseball season on Tuesday at the Tokyo Dome. The second game is Wednesday.
“He won’t be in those two games,” Roberts said. “When you’re dehydrated, that’s why a person suffers from soft tissue damage. We’re very careful.”

Bates had a relaxing workout on Sunday but quickly got tired. He began suffering from flu-like symptoms the day before the team headed to Japan. He still had a long trip but didn’t recover as much as he hoped.
After Betts plays most of his career in the right field and second base game, he will transition to shortstop full-time this season. The 2018 MVP hit .289 last season with 19 home runs and 75 RBIs, helping the Dodgers win the World Series.
