The planned visit appears to mark tensions between athletes and the president. Trump is kneeling down the national anthem between him and NFL players, an acceptable form of racial injustice, a form of controversy between him and NFL players. When rumors spun around this year’s Eagles, the team confirmed in February that they would accept the invitation.
The relationship between athletes and Trump has warmed up, which is evident during last year’s presidential campaign. But his tune has also changed, and it is now a “honor” to say that he is able to go to the White House.
“This is not a formal conversation for us as a ball club,” he said through ESPN. “It is certainly a huge honor to be given an invitation to the White House. It allows us to celebrate our 2024 championship. To my understanding, every World Series champion has received that honor, so it is a huge honor for all of us.”

Despite previous hostility, Trump also made sure to invite the Hawks too.

“This team and this group are special,” he added. “Everyone sees what we do on the ice, but I’ve bonded with these guys. I’ll have these guys all my life. I’ll always be grateful to these guys. We’ll always be champions and I’ll always remember these guys.”
