Discord made its streaming overlay a lot more user-friendly | TechCrunch

Discord announced Tuesday that it rebuilds its coverage features from scratch.

The new overlay makes streaming games more user-friendly at the end of the streaming.

In its legacy table, streaming can switch overlay displays to use Discord while playing games, but this will make the entire Discord client in the center of the screen, blocking streaming and providing for a clumsy user experience.

In the new version of Overlay, users can add specific Discord widgets that will appear around the screen for easy access, allowing you to see messages and adjust sound and video settings without improving the entire Discord client. These widgets can be customized on the screen for opacity, size and placement.

If another friend is streaming at the same time, the widget in the picture allows you to watch their feeds from your own overlay, which may be helpful for playing online games online. If the user is in a live chat, he can see other users’ webcam videos.

Discord says the overlay will be compatible with more games and will run with smoother performance.

Discord also reveals some updates to its desktop app. Dark Mode lovers will be happy to learn that the platform gets more free dark themes, so you can switch between slightly different shades of black and gray (Ash, Dark and Agate). The new UI density option will also let users customize word spacing.

These updates are more targeted at power users, especially creators who can use the service community to make money. However, even for casual users who play games with some friends, these quality of life upgrades should be welcomed.
