Dems flood defense bill with far-left amendments aimed at Trump

House prepares to accept annual Defense Policy Bill this week, Democrats submit hundreds of amendments – many aim to denounce the president Donald Trump’s Management and current Republican priorities.

Members have proposed approximately 450 proposed amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2026. These include measures to deal with diversity, Israeli funding and Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

The House Rules Committee will review the bill on Monday afternoon and set parameters for debate, paving the way for floor voting later this week.

Most progressive amendments are unlikely to survive, emphasizing their symbolic nature. Still, Democrats are using traditional bipartisan defense programs to focus on opposition to the White House and Republican leadership.

D-Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett proposed several amendments, including a strike NDAA banning the use of defense funds for Diversity, equity and inclusion (dei) Work hard.

Similarly, D-Calif. Rep. Luz Rivas and D-Hawaii’s Jill Tokuda proposed an amendment to block the Pentagon’s ban on DEI programs.

Crockett also introduced language designed to stop building immigration detention facilities on military facilities, directly challenging Trump administration policies.

D-FLA. Rep. Maxwell Frost proposed an amendment that prohibits Department of Defense from funding to support immigration processing and detention operations.

The Pentagon announced last month that it would establish the country’s largest federal immigration detention center in Fort Bliss, Texas.

Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill. Two amendments to the Trump-era immigration policy were filed. According to the Rules Committee’s website, one person will prohibit funds for family separation, while the other “bans funds from transferring non-citizens to foreign prisons, except under the treaty and extradition laws.” The latter proposal will effectively block the Exit from El Salvador.

D-Mich. Rashida Tlaib’s representative and D-Minn. Ilhan Omar proposed measures aimed at limiting U.S. support for Israel.

Tlaib’s amendment would prohibit the U.S. from providing government officials with weapons sales to countries holding International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrants. The International Criminal Court issued warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior officials in late 2024.

Omar’s proposal aims to abolish Israeli emergency and visit the country’s U.S. to manage weapons stocks.

The NDAA is a bill passed every fiscal year that creates national security and defense policies for the U.S. government.

This year’s bill has introduced more than 1,000 amendments.
