DAVID MARCUS: Sorry Stephen A. Smith, Democrats don’t let outsiders win their primaries

Those who host America’s oldest political party wouldn’t just give Smith the car keys. In fact, they will do everything they can to destroy his new political career, even if it means destroying him.

Smith appeared in ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday and confirmed last week that he did not rule out the game from the country’s top office. After all, you might say, if a celebrity like Donald Trump can find himself living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, why not Stephen Smith?

The answer to this question is that the Democrats are not Republicans.

Just ask Robert F Kennedy, Jr., Democrats deny any chance to challenge Joe Biden in the 2024 primary, now working for Trump.

To be sure, Smith has a very positive case when the Democrats linger in the political wilderness, trembling in the long cold shadows of Biden’s incompetence and decay.

Smith was obviously a gifted communicator, and besides that, he attracted the party’s Achilles high heels, working class people. He seems to be more or less unaware of weird awakening ideas, such as men playing football in women’s sports.

Smith has undeniable attraction for everyone. After all, sports analysts are pretty much the ones you want to drink with beer, and even in that world, Smith balances the cruelty of sports with high boobs and impeccable style.

His hugely successful career in the aggressive and high-risk world of sports media is an asset for Smith. Before voters can agree with what politicians say, they must want to hear what they have to say. Smith knows how to get attention.

But before we start designing fully illuminated basketball courts in Rose Garden, it’s worth considering that Democratic elites must block Smith’s extensive tools, a set of tools that Republicans will succumb to Trump in 2016 if they have them.

First, Superdelegates is saying that non-elected party insiders who voted for nominees at the party convention played a greater role in the main process of the Democratic Party, not in the Republican process. Beyond that, given the Democratic dominance in our major urban areas, the local Democratic machine plays a major role.

Rep. James Clyburn’s voting effort in South Carolina city gave Biden a 2020 victory, although just a week ago, his candidacy looked like he had died in Doornail.

Party Presbyterians choose candidates, whether voters like it or not. Don’t forget that just five months ago, Kamala Harris ran for president and never won a small election. Does it really matter how many votes Smith can get in a party where no votes are not voted by the nominee?

In 2016, Donald Trump did not win the Republican presidential nomination as he did with the Republican Party, and fundamentally we still see a shift in the way of dealing with young and working class voters and tariffs and peace.

To become president, Stephen A. Smith must be the same. It is not enough to just get the most votes for the Democratic nomination. Like Trump, he will have to fundamentally change the party itself and the power structure in it.

Being as talented as Smith, changing the Democratic Party may be too high for anyone. It is a machine designed to minimize the influence of voters.

If Smith does want to be president, he may have a greater chance of running as a Republican. But this is another day’s column.
