Exclusive: The only Cuba-born congressman is calling on the Trump administration to “starve the Havana regime” by cutting off some of the last economic lifelines associated with the United States
Rep. Carlos Gimenez of R-FLA.Recently, he recently returned to the island for the first time as part of a delegation to Guantanamo Bay, saying that while economic restrictions and travel restrictions are decades of economic embargo and travel restrictions, there are still many ways Americans can help the regime by chance.
Thursday, Gimenes will write To Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, demanding that “all travel stop” travel to and from communist islands, and a ban on U.S. citizens from sending money to relatives or friends, in addition to specific funds approved by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Gimenez told Fox News Digital that the administration of dictator Miguel Diaz-Canel ended up receiving substantial remittances, and that any way to further transfer economic screws to the regime is something the U.S. government should consider.

He praised President Donald Trump for reversing the Obama-era “disastrous” policy that allowed daylight between Havana and Washington to allow.

“The murderous dictatorship in Cuba is supported by life. The regime cannot even keep the lights, and the United States must stand up with the Cuban people and overthrow this pathetic gang once and for all…. Now is the time.”
Asked how strong the current restrictions are, Gimenes said: “A lot of travel has happened between Cuba and the United States.”
“All you have to do is go to MIA and you’ll see all kinds of flights from the United States to Cuba and back – need to stop.”
He said some travel bans are not enough because the regime will always find loopholes to exploit – and, if the exceptions he is asking, Rubio will be the right official to determine his viability.

Asked why Cuba seems to be treating terrorists in other official countries, such as Iran and Afghanistan, Jimenes said the distance is 90 miles from the United States and the large number of Cuban refugee families living in Florida and beyond.
