“Do you think there is any real evidence for Democrats to show that anyone in the administration is profiting from the president’s policies and announcements, or is it just a fishing expedition?” Welk asked.
“You know, this is a problem with Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans. It’s our entire system designed to check and balance.” “Now, Trump has designed a government we’ve seen before. He’s attacking agencies that should be subject to independent oversight of such actions.”
Booker went on to argue that Congress needed to uphold its role in holding the president accountable, just to have Welk interrupt and repeat her questions.

Senator Cory Booker defended the idea of investigating Trump’s tariff suspension for insider trading.
“But is there any evidence?” Welk interrupted. “Do you think there is any evidence that someone is profiting from these tariffs?”
“There are enough crimes here. There is enough smoke here to require a Congressional hearing,” Booker said.
He added that there were “real, legal, reasonable” issues regarding Trump’s actions, and claimed that Congress would be “invertebral and submissive” if there was no hearing on the matter.

“We urge the SEC to investigate tariff announcements that resulted in the market crash and subsequent partial recovery at the expense of the U.S. public, and a priori suspension of tariffs by any insider, including the President, to enable the president to announce stock transactions announced in advance,” he said.
