EcodateCenterIt is a Swedish company that has established a major computing provider to handle its AI transportation, raising nearly $5 billion ($478 million ($450 million) to be exact, with more demand expected.
Equity funds from a group of unnamed institutional investors will be used to continue to develop new technologies for more “green” data centers and build these structures.
The news came two days after one of EDC’s major customers, AI Compute Giant Coreweave, Apply for an IPO In the United States.
To date, EDC has now raised 910 million euros ($966 million) in equity. Areim, the holding company that owns the company, declined to say what the company’s valuation is. The company did confirm that it was out of the card from EDC.
“We focus on expanding ecological standards and providing long-term value and are strongly supported by investors.” “While we continue to evaluate the company’s strategic opportunities, including potential future financing options, IPOs are not what we actively pursue at this stage.”
EcodateCenter focuses on building data centers, especially customers bringing some or all of their own servers and related hardware to host space – more sustainable. This is a timely effort: Research International Energy Agency The ability of hungry big data centers has been shown.
The IEA found that the electricity demand for these data centers is 100 megawatts or more, “the annual electricity consumption equals the electricity demand for 350,000 to 400,000 electric vehicles.” The IEA also estimates that data centers together account for 1% of all global electricity consumption.
In this case, EDC can not only help meet seemingly unlimited computing power needs, but also because of trying to do this in an environmentally friendly way – now affecting others.
“We are the first company in the world to start building cross-laminated wood,” Peter Michelson’s CEO said in an interview. “Now, Microsoft is paying attention.” EDC also uses renewable energy to power buildings and continues to work on new methods and materials for more efficient cooling and operation.
Other EcodateCenter customers include DEEPL and so-called “high standards.” The latter companies do build their own data centers, but they also load balance by taking up space in people built by third-party (e.g. EDC).
Although it has expansions for many customers (such as BMW), EDC may be a partner of CoreWeave. This is also a well-known hosting provider project In partnership with Coreweave and Nvidia, the first Blackwell cluster in Europe was established in the town of Falun, Sweden, with the aim of bringing more computing power to Europe.
The scale of EDC fundraising highlights how valuable data centers, especially custodial centers that offset major capital expenditures for customer spending, become the current hype cycle of AI.
That was a global surge. Most notably, the United States announced in January Star GateThis is a $500 billion project, and the United States has begun building Mega AI data centers with the support of OpenAI, Softbank and others. (The program is only at this point: Trump announced a few days after taking office that it provides idealized photos for the new administration, which is not only tech-friendly, but also positive.)
“Given the increasing technology-oriented focus of real estate infrastructure, there is a lot of infrastructure-based capital flooding in the data center space,” Michelson said.
That real estate host could be a great deal for how the current administration, especially President Trump (who started his career as a real estate launch) could work hard to sell with his own big data center.
