“CBS Morning” co-host Nate Burleson faces criticism for asking former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (r-calif.) Should Republicans “reflect” on their rhetoric after the assassination of American Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk – a question from critics says unfairly politicizing a tragic moment.

Award-winning broadcaster Tim Brando, who worked at CBS Sports for 18 years before moving to Fox Sports in 2014, said Burleson’s comments should not be tolerated.
Brando wrote on X: “I only have positive words to say about my experience there. Professionalism and etiquette are its phone cards. It is an honor to get through the broadcast center to Studio 43. Such remarks will never be tolerated.”

“Something online today is disgusting, but when you see this on the radio, once considered a pillar of journalism, it’s no wonder how we plunged,” he continued. “What’s said here is pale.
Burleson, a former wide receiver in the NFL, suggested that the words of the U.S. turnaround founder are sometimes “offensive” and that “not everyone accepts his words or his words” before asking McCarthy.
Burrson asked: “When it comes to this tragedy, is this a time for your party to reflect on political violence?”
Co-host Gayle King added that the “both sides” should reflect it. McCarthy responded that he did not view the rise of political violence as an issue within all parties, but rather a problem facing the entire country.
The long-conservative correspondent Steve Guest called Burrson’s speech “nothing” and shared a clip that aired on X on Friday morning with more than 3.6 million.

“It’s the highly offensive Nate Burleson. Charlie Kirk was assassinated in front of his family, and you ask Republicans if they need to lower their comments? You encourage this violence when you call one side of racist Nazis a threat to democracy,” said former NFL player and congressional candidate Jay Feely.
Townhouse columnist Dustin Grage said Burleson needed to “read the room” and Meghan McCain blows up CBS hosts.
McCain wrote: “So, one of the most outstanding Republicans on Earth was slaughtered in cold blood before his wife and children, do we need to downplay the speech? Bari Weiss Will be in a leadership role with CBS News.
“Nate Burleson, maybe a good guy…but remind us that he was a former NFL player, walked on the snowboard, left,” answered NewsBusters executive editor Curtis Houck.

“If they don’t change that, they won’t change anything,” wrote political expert Stephen L. Miller.
“When Paramount reorganized, CBS News’ Nate Burleson should be on the layoff list,” wrote conservative broadcaster Erick Erickson.
NewsBusters deputy editor Nicholas Fondacaro called it “absolutely terrible behavior” by Burleson and Outkick columnist Bobby Burack, calling CBS news host “Clueless.”
CBS News and Paramount did not respond immediately Fox News NumbersRequest for comment.
