“Today, the Commander Organization and our fans are a historic day for DC,” Commander Josh Harris said in a statement posted on social media. “The approval of the Managers Committee, we can now advance the transformative RFK project, which will bring lasting economic growth to our cities.”

“This achievement would have been impossible without the dedication of Mayor Ball, Mendelson, the Council and countless community, business and labor leaders, whose voices and commitment helped shape the process that would have been the case.

“We really appreciate your warm return to the heart of the area and the heart of DMV and look forward to formally bringing the team back to its spiritual home in 2030.”

According to a letter from team president Mark Close, the commander expressed concern about the “new last minute request” from the District of Columbia Council. However, most of the proposed amendments were rejected at Wednesday’s meeting.

Commander DC Stadium wants to move forward under pressure from Trump’s nickname

Washington hopes to complete a new stadium by 2030.

Last month, when the DC Council initially approved the bill with a 9-3 vote, commanders pursued a step forward on the old RFK Stadium site. The legislation requires a second approval before being promoted to Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser who supports the Commander’s plan.

Harris and his ownership group have considered multiple locations in Washington, Maryland and Virginia before riding the RFK location. The city gained control of land earlier this year after Congress passed legislation signed by President Joe Biden in January.

In April, Harris, Bowser and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced an agreement with DC officials on site at the RFK Stadium. They also met President Donald Trump Celebrate in the Oval Office. The $3.8 billion reconstruction project also includes 6,000 housing units, retail space and Parkland, in addition to the new site.

But the process ran into a hurdle when Trump opposed the team’s refusal to restore its former redskin’ name.

“I might impose restrictions on them if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskin’ and get rid of the ridiculous nickname of the Washington Commander, “I will not be a deal for them to build a stadium in Washington.” The team will be more valuable, which will be even more exciting for everyone,” he wrote on “Sociality of Truth.”

Trump also criticized the team’s name during the announcement of the resumption of the president’s fitness test.

“I don’t even know what the hell they are,” Trump said. “Is this a commander or something? Is it a commander? Commander, this is not a good name.”
