Harry Enten, a senior political data reporter for CNN, pointed out on Monday that President Donald Trump was “much better” in the Ukrainian war than former President Biden.
On Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Trump and White House Vice President JD Vance, and a yelling match broke out. The meeting was off track after Zelenskyy began arguing with Trump and Vance. And many Democratic leaders are scared, Many Republicans and voters generally agree with Trump’s attitude towards such foreign conflict.
On Monday, Enten talked about how the polls have shown that Americans have changed dramatically in their perception of them over the past few years Ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
“I think the easiest way we can do is ask, ‘Does Americans like the way Trump handles his work and compare it to how he feels about Joe Biden?’ So, that’s the net approval rate.” He said in a CBS News/YouGov voting chart that compares the feelings of voters about both presidents dealing with the Russian-Ukrainian conflict during his tenure.

CNN poll experts were surprised by how Americans approve of Trump’s attitude towards Ukraine and his ex.

“You look at Joe Biden in 2024. He’s 22 underwater, Holy Bull!” he said before signaling how Trump gets a positive online rating. “You look at Donald Trump. It’s a completely different planet. I mean, the bay between the two is wider than the U.S. Gulf or the Gulf of Mexico, depending on which side of the aisle you’re standing on.
“So, at this point, the Americans are giving Donald Trump the benefit of doubt,” he said. “He’s doing better than Joe Biden does in dealing with the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and so on, on this simple question, I think the Americans are saying, ‘Well, Donald Trump is doing a great job in that!”
CNN host Kate Bolduan then asked him to show Americans how he felt about the war ended.
He noted that 50% of the Americans who voted by Gallup hoped to quickly end the war that allowed Russia to retain captured land, while 48% would rather Ukraine continue to fight.
While this seems to be a result of neck and neck at the moment, Enten explained that “the trend line for this issue is very important” as those who want to end the war quickly will be only 31% in 2022.
“We mean, for Americans who want to end the war quickly, it’s a rocket ship, even if it means Russia keeps captured Ukrainian lands.

“The Americans’ views on Russia are also shifting,” Bordogan observed.
“Absolutely. I mean, we see that this is one of the reasons Americans say ‘Russia is the enemy’, which you can go back to 2023, and that’s 64%, while CBS News YouGov Poll poll drops to 34%.
Enten notes that although most Americans still consider Russia to be an unfriendly country, “the percentages that those who consider themselves an ally or friendly are also as high as 34%, basically equaling the percentages that say they are enemies.”

He then argued that this shifting attitude toward Russia was ultimately the reason Americans were willing to support the compromise to end the war.

“So, the perception of Russia has become increasingly isolated because of the desire for Russia to be there alone and think of itself as the enemy,” CNN investigative experts said. “At this point, they are starting to see Russia be more friendly, and I think that’s part of the reason Americans want to see compromises at this particular moment.”
