Charlie Sheen’s The history of substance abuse can be traced back decades.
Sheen, 60, reflects his addiction journey and the way his famous family organized interventions in the early 1990s in the new Netflix documentary “AKA Charlie Sheen.”

“I was invited to my father’s birthday party,” Sheen said in the documentary, People Magazine.
“I want mom to call me, ‘Dad has something to do, so we have to do it as early as possible.” She’s like, “We’re thinking 9:00.” I’m like, “Am I?” She’s like, “Yes.”

His long-time friend Sean Penn did not attend. Pennsylvania said in the documentary that he “never participated in these interventions” due to his personal struggles.
“I’m not taking my own perfect marks in some ways,” Pennsylvania said.

Sheen remembers mostly silent during the days of “emotional” and his friends and family read letters.

“There are a lot of things to deal with,” he said. “I kind of heard of these things, but never so close to intervention.” Sheen asked to take the time to leave the group and consider getting treatment, but “they said, ‘No. This is the decision we made for you and it has to happen today.’”

He added: “I was thinking, ‘If I just agreed with this, just to get out of this situation, I might be able to make a plan somewhere away from here.”
Sheen pondered deeply about ways to avoid treatment until his father walked out of the office and said, “Someone on the phone wanted to talk to you.”

Sheen finally got clean in 2017. “You have to be willing,” he told People. “I keep one [mental list] In the worst, most shameful thing I’ve ever done, if I want a drink, I can see it in my mind. ”
