Chilean authorities in Antarctica allowed U.S. pilot Ethan Guo, who was flying around the world to raise funds to fight cancer and left Chilean air base after a two-month stay.
On Saturday, Mr. Guo returned to the South American mainland in Punta Arenas, Chile, where he set out in June. Now, the pilot and influencer hopes to resume flights to all seven continents to raise funds to raise funds for pediatric cancer research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Mr. Guo wanted to fly his Cessna 182q from Teniente Rodolfo Marsh Martin Airport in Antarctica, but was banned by Chilean authorities.
“We are coordinating with the Chilean Aviation Authority, and they have been supporting the arrangement of another pilot to fly the plane to the mainland. Once that happens, I look forward to resuming my global fight against cancer.”
Mr. Guo was 20 years old after the base landed there in June.
Mr. Guo said he landed there after having technical problems while flying to Ushuaia, Argentina. But Chilean prosecutors said he forged his flight plan and deliberately landed in Antarctica in Chile.
Mr. Guo avoided the charge but was asked to donate $30,000 to the Chilean Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation to leave the country without returning for three years.
Despite his disagreement with the Chilean authorities, Mr. Guo said: “The Chilean people are very hospitality and they have always been great people. They have taken care of me. They have taught me Spanish and they treat me like family,” said the Associated Press.
