Kill the hunter of the shooter Conservative activist Charlie Kirk Authorities said a suspect was ended on Friday.
Utah’s Department of Public Safety and FBI confirmed the arrest in a morning briefing Shot at Utah Valley University Wednesday.
Authorities identified the suspect as Tyler Robinson, 22, of Washington, Utah, after receiving a prompt from a friend of Robinson’s family. Officials said the tip was late Thursday night, prompting agents to move quickly and arrest him. A $100,000 reward was announced Thursday for information leading to the identity of the shooter and arrest.

In a press conference Friday, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox announced that Robinson was arrested in the early hours of September 12 after a family member contacted a family friend who had contacted the authorities. Friends told investigators that Robinson hinted that he was involved in the shooting. The tip was communicated through local law enforcement to investigators in the FBI and Utah County, which began Robinson’s Grey Dodge Challenger and Costume with the shooting. A family member also told investigators that Robinson had a critical discussion of Kirk.
Cox said Robinson’s roommates also collaborated to report discordant information to investigators, and Robinson discussed retrieval and concealing rifles, wrapping them in towels, monitoring the dropped scene and carving bullets.
FBI Director Kash Patel outlined the bureau’s role in the investigation, highlighting the speed of response and coordination with Utah authorities. He said agents arrived at the scene within 16 minutes of the shooting and worked with local police to secure the area and quickly began transferring the evidence to Quantico’s FBI Labs for analysis. “The FBI and our partners are proud to stand here today to provide justice to Charlie Kirk’s family and respect his memory,” he said.
In addition to Cox’s identified Discord accounts, Robinson does not appear to have an online footprint immediately recognized in public or private databases. Internet users produced the images they claimed were from family albums released online, but his immediate family members’ accounts were quickly closed and could not verify the images; no one pointed out any obvious motivation or ideology.
In a statement, Utah State University confirmed that Robinson attended the school briefly for one semester in 2021.
Investigators received a Mauser 30-caliber hunting rifle near the shooting site, and the gunman was allegedly abandoned by the gunman when he fled to a wooded area. A round of flowers was found in the room, and there were three live cartridges in the magazine. Cox said Friday that Kessins had inscribed inscriptions, ranging from political slogans to cultural references and vulgar jokes.
Authorities said the shooter fired from the roof, overlooking the courtyard where Kirk held a trademark “prove me wrong” campus debate. The widely shared footage shows Kirk is working on solving the problem of mass shootings when the bullet suddenly hits him in the neck.
