Top seeds Auburn men’s basketball The team beat Alabama in the first round of the NCAA I Division men’s basketball game.
The Tigers then defeated Creton in the second round on Saturday, before moving to 16. March Crazy Auburn Great Charles Barkley stood out and expressed his support for one of the team’s current stars.
Barkley, who provided comments on the tournament’s broadcast, believes Johnny Broome will surpass him in Auburn’s legend if he can lead the Tigers to their first national title.

“If he could end the journey, I would say he was the greatest player in Auburn basketball history,” Barkley said on a televised Thursday. “I mean. Everything he did for the program, he and the coach (Bruce) Pearl and those guys were incredible. But it would be great if they could win the national championship and listen to it.”
Barkley later noted Auburn’s appearance in the 2019 final, announcing the program’s best season to date.

“I would say that, I said, a few years ago they entered their last four seasons, the greatest season in Auburn basketball history. If he could win the championship, I would say he was the greatest player in Auburn basketball history. … He was better than me in college.”
Auburn faces some skepticism in this year’s game as the team struggles late in the regular season. The Tigers threw back-to-back games to Texas A&M and Alabama earlier this month.

Barkley points out the quality of the opponent who beat Auburn. “They didn’t lose to Providence,” he said. “They lost to three top 10 schools. Listen, disrespect Providence. Don’t blow up. …They lost Alabama in the buzzer, they were the No. 2 or 3 seeds. That’s why I’m not worried. They lost to three teams in the country’s top 15.”
