The comic has long been on the frontline of democracy, the canary in the cat’s mouth, Looney Tunes Styleabout freedom of speech, was swallowed up by return to politics.
So Jimmy Kimmel is in good shape, although he may not like this particular historical party: Zero Mostel; Philip Loeb;Even Lenny Bruce claims to be a comic after being looked at by the FBI and Backroom on the blacklist, but more “Surgeons of scalpels are used for false values.”
In that era of McCarthyism in the 1950s (yes, I know the trouble of Bruce came up later), the United States suffered an attack on our First Amendment rights to make fun of the people we want, the way we want, and survive – despite career and career survival – Even life is lost.
Maybe we don’t have a new one yet House Non-U.S. Activities Committeebut this moment feels grim.
Wake up, Los Angeles. This is not Jimmy Kimmel’s problem. This is a problem in Los Angeles.
It’s about punishing people who speak out. This is about silence. It’s about abusing government power to follow the enemy. You don’t need to agree with Kimmel’s politics to see where this situation is going.
For some time during Trump 2.0, the right-wing anger was targeted at California in general, especially San Francisco, a bastion of history that, with its drug culture, the open LBGTQ+Ethos and Pelosi-Newsom political dynasty seemed to be a perfect example of a perfect consideration of some societal failures.
But in fact, the difficulty of hating San Francisco is that it doesn’t care. The city has long admitted and even flaunted the US’s dissatisfaction with the US. That’s why the infamous newspaper columnist Herb Caen dubbed it “Baghdad by the Bay” more than 80 years ago, when the town had already fully embedded its outsider status.
On the other hand, Los Angeles never considered itself a problem. Most of the time, we get stuck in our own lives by surviving or working hard to think about what others think of our chaotic, dynamic, complex city. Besides that, Angelenos does not often see himself as a single identity. There are over 9 million people living in our vast county, and there are a million different LAs.
But for the rest of the United States, Los Angeles is increasingly a specific reality, a place that, like San Francisco once, embodies all the mistakes of certain parts of American rights.
It’s no accident that President Trump chose Los Angeles as his first stop on his National Guard Tour, or the ice patrol is on our streets. It was undoubtedly not a good decision, but a push for what we know as a push to destroy UCLA.
Actually, what Kimmel said to Charlie Kirk wasn’t what he pulled up, because in fact, his remarks were far from the most offensive remarks on both sides of the political spectrum.
In fact, he was not talking about Kirk, but about what he called the killer, and, soon after, there was endless speculation about his political beliefs. It turns out Kimmel mistakenly implies that the suspects are conservative, although we may have to wait until trial to fully understand the evidence.
“Magic gang [is] Kimmel said.
You can support what Kimmel said or offend it deeply. But for those who said the “cancel culture” of liberalism a few years ago, it was affluent and destroyed the same strategy the United States adopted.

If you need to prove that this is more about control than content, it is nothing more than Trump’s social media post on this issue, which directly encourages NBC to fire its own late-night hosts who also do a lot of digging into the president.
“Kimmy has zero talent if possible, and has a higher rating than Albert. This puts Jimmy and Seth on Fake News NBC, the total number of two losers. Their ratings are also terrible. Do NBC!!!” Trump wrote.
It is to take the role model of America’s most vibrant, inclusive city and a celebrity idol who dares to diss, this place looks better than anyone else, like freedom, life, like jokes.
If Kimmel could fall so easily, that would mean the career of Hannah Einbinder, who shouted “Free Palestine” at the Emmys? Will there be a quiet fear of hiring her?
This means it’s like a union leader David Huerta is still facing charges After being detained in immigration protests? Will people think twice before joining the demonstration?
What does this mean to you? People who lead a broad and inclusive life. Those who forge their own paths, make their own ways, break the boundaries of traditional society, no matter how you call your country by choosing who loves, what you want to call your country, how you think about your identity or foster your soul.
You, Los Angeles, with your California dream and the attitude of anything, are a vivid manifestation of everything that needs to be crushed.
I’m not trying to get you into an anxious spiral, but it’s important to understand what we’ll lose if civil rights continue to erode.
Kimmel’s speech was under scrutiny in the coalition, and our immigrant neighbors were rounded and detained. The federal government puts financial pressure on doctors to abandon care for trans patients, University of California is forced to Flip the staff and students’ names, maybe beef.
Sweeping away by ice seems to be very different from the one millionaire celebrity who lost his performance, but they are both weaponizations of the government to its people.
It was Disney that took action against Kimmel, not Donald Trump. But Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr threatened to “take action” and if the ABC doesn’t sound like the way the White House talks about Washington, Oakland and many other blue cities, then Los Angeles is the top of the list.
Our black mayor. Our Latino Senators and Representatives. Our 1 million undocumented residents. We identify nearly 10% of the adult population as LGBTQ+. Our comics, musicians, actors and writers have long prompted us to see the world in new, often difficult ways.
Many of us are here because other places don’t want us, don’t know us, try to stop us. (I’m in Sacramento now, but I’m still Angelino.) We’re here, coming to California and Los Angeles to protect the state and the city.
But now it needs our protection.
But this attack on democracy comes, we are all Jimmy Kimmel – we are all in danger. The essence of this place is siege, and standing together in many aspects of these attacks is our best defense.
Seeing them is an attack – whether it is targeting celebrities, car washers, or our entire city, it is crucial.
“Our democracy is not self-enforced,” former President Obama recently said. “No matter our political affiliation, it depends on us as citizens, but rather stand up to fight for the core values that make this country the world’s jealousy.”
So here we need perseverance, insight, and demand that we stand up and say the most ridiculous things we say in a town full of absurdity:
I’m Jimmy Kimmel and I won’t be silent.
