CBS News could undergo a major editorial reshuffle, and reports suggest that the founder of free media Bari Weiss Set to join the network, insiders react with curiosity, caution and optimism.
CEO of New Paramount David Ellison There have long been rumors that she established Covet Weiss and Free Media after she left the New York Times sharply in 2020. Parker’s Dylan Byers reported Wednesday that “the two sides have agreed to a deal in principle” with a price ranging from $100 million to $200 million, and Weiss will serve as the role guide for CBBS News.”
Weiss built her brand around the concept of free collective thinking in the heritage channels, and he will surely cheer up. The move “involuntarily sparks a rebound in every corner of the newsroom,” Puck reported, but not everyone at CBS News was shocked.
A CBS news staff member told Fox News Numbers.

A second CBS News employee said people have been sharing hockey reports internally, but “no one knows what it means or looks like” once Weiss actually joined the network. They noted that CBS News had “dozens of mid-level managers” and other editorial directors, and everyone was in the dark about how Weiss worked with them.
However, the employee did point out that CBS was eager to climb third after ABC and NBC lag behind ABC and NBC’s evening and morning news broadcasts.
“I don’t know much about her, but I don’t think I can see that if she can give us more eyes or more income, I don’t see that it’s a bad thing.”
CBS News declined to comment. Paramount and Free Press did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Weiss Famously abandoned the times Her resignation letter details the bullying behavior of colleagues in the “free environment” at that time. Her resignation letter sent a direct letter to Times publisher AG Sulzberger, detailing a toxic working environment that sends shock waves in the media industry.
“It should not require courage to appear as a centrist in American newspapers,” she wrote.

In recent reports, Ellison-Weiss’ deal was the third CBS news worker on the “One Code Line,” he praised Weiss for “doing amazing things” with Free Press and said her criticism of traditional media resonated. They said Weiss would go “very strong criticism of traditional media” into the CBS News lobby.

Not everyone is optimistic, as the Liberal Newsletter talks to other CBS employees and believes that hiring a determined pro-Israel Weiss would “cause a fire inside the newsroom, especially in reports from Israel and Gaza.”
An employee told Status. Another said they would be “in trouble” if they had to take editorial instructions from Weiss.
Restoring CBS News’ reputation seems to be Ellison’s priority. He attended an editorial meeting, visited the office, and briefly met with CBS news directors, including “60 Minutes” executive producer Tanya Simon.
Longtime online news producers working on rival networks believe Weiss should keep his head spinning because senior CBS journalists are “very good” in disrupting new management.
“If Bari Weiss thinks the New York Times is a bully, wait until she appears on CBS News,” the producer told Fox News Digital.

“They will eat her alive, backstab, destroy her reputation and humiliate her,” they warned. “Can you imagine how she tried to tell Tanya Simon how his father was kidnapped in an Iraqi prison?”
Ellison has not appointed a new long-time CBS News chief and has declined to comment on the “rumor”, although employees say they like to work with current CBS News president Tom Cibrowski, who joined the company earlier this year.
Cibrowski is in close contact with former CBS News president and CEO Wendy McMahon, who was kicked out before Ellison took over. “It’s obvious that the company and I don’t agree with the path forward,” McMahon said.
McMahon was kicked out before Ellison’s takeover and said: “It’s obvious that the company and I don’t agree with the way forward.”
