Federal authorities arrested an illegal immigrant after appearing in court on overfishing charges.
Walter Betancourth was ordered to be deported in 2022 but violated the order.
A park ranger found him in June in a “Hispanic Male” fishing on the National Coast of Hatteras, North Carolina.
Their vehicles lack off-road permits, and during the traffic stop, Rangers said Mr. Bebert admitted to capturing three red drum fishes, or North Carolina’s daily restrictions. One person also exceeded the legal 27-inch length limit.
Rangers enumerated Mr. Bebert’s misdemeanor.
When Honduran, 46, appeared in federal court this week, the U.S. marshal rushed, arrested him and turned him to immigration and customs enforcement.
“Illegal foreigners come to our land and use our national resources to do it for them because they completely ignore our common values, customs and rules,” said Ellis Boyle, U.S. Attorney for Eastern North Carolina.
He called overfishing “annoying disregard for our natural bounty.”
“Let this remind the aliens who are present illegally, no matter where you are or what you are doing, we will find you and send you back, or even just fish on the beach.”
