Japanese cooking sauce has Recalled Worry about bubble bacteria causing the bottle to swell.
The recall, initiated on March 17, is related to the red-shelled Teriyaki sauce. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified the recall as Class II on Friday. Category II recall means that exposure to the product “can have temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or where the possibility of serious adverse health consequences is out of reach.”
A total of 981 temporary sauce bottles were recalled: 933 12 oz bottles and 48 single-added bottles. The UPC numbers are 0-18529-10001-9 and 0-18529-10505-6, respectively.
In the recall, there are only products with a batch code of 120326 (and the best date).

The FDA website reports that the shelf-stable sauce “displays[ed] Signs of micro growth (bubbling). “Some of its containers are also starting to expand.

According to the FDA, the product is only distributed in California. Its ingredients include soy, wheat, sugar, cooking wine, improved food starch, garlic and lactic acid, and a variety of spices.
Red Shell Foods’ website describes the product as “a thick sweet sauce with perfectly even flavored seasoning with selected spices”. The sauce label is recommended for consumers to refrigerate the bottle after it is opened.

Golden State consumers are urged to return or discard recalled products.
The red shell teriyaki sauce isn’t the only sauce that urges consumers to check their pantry. Last week, two types Texas Pitt Hot Sauce Recalled in 10 states due to label issues.
