Prosecutor Paulo Gonet said Tuesday that in a multi-step plan, those facing charges aimed at putting Bolsonaro in power “at all costs”, accelerated after far-right politicians lost to the incumbent president.
Part of the plot includes plans to kill Lula and Justice Alexander de Moras, which are under surveillance by so-called conspirators, Gonet said.
Gonet said the plan did not continue because at the last minute, the defendant failed to get the Army commander to join.
“However, even after the elected Republic was sworn in, frustration prevented members of the criminal organization from giving up violent seizure of power,” Gonitt said.
This is a reference to the riots of January 8, 2023, when a stubborn supporter of Bolsonaro attacked the Supreme Court, the Presidential Palace and Congress in Brasilia a week after taking office in Lula.

Bolsonaro’s running mate during the 2022 election, former Defense Secretary Walter Braga Netto, former Attorney General Anderson Torres and his assistant assistant Mauro Cid will also be tried. The court will determine the fate of others in the future.
Bolsonaro is a former military officer who openly rebels against Brazil’s judicial system during his term of 2019-2022.
