Boston Mayor Michelle Wu expressed condolences to the family of a suspect who waved his knives over the weekend, who was shot dead by an off-duty official after trying to stab two people Saturday night.

Cox added that he “proudly activates his police officers, whether on duty or off, trying to save lives.”
After Cox and Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden expressed grief over the loss of life during the incident, Wu Xian did not express sympathy for the two people who were almost stabbed by the suspect, just those incidents that were “affected” by the incident, which happened in part of the store in Bean Town.”
“My condolences and all our thoughts are with the families of the people who lost their lives,” Wu said. “And I’m still thinking about all the people who are affected today in this tragic busy area of the city.”
“I’m glad the officer is safe and very grateful that we’re here for getting a quick response from all the first responders again,” she said.
Wu’s remarks were called on social media shortly after her speech. Reporter Jonathan Choe wrote: “[i]T turned upside down in Boston. ”

“When did you last hear the mayor apologize to the family of the knife attacker who was suspected of trying to kill multiple people?” Cui asked. “Where are those who were almost killed?”
Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk said in another X post: “Boston, I will do my best: You desperately need a new mayor. Believe me.”
Fox News contributor Joe Concha, a former Boston resident, also weighed the incident.
“How can Boston vote again?” Concha wrote. “I live in the Houwan area. This is one of the safest areas in the city. She expresses her condolences?
“The mayor of Boston’s condolences – waiting – waving a knife to try to kill people!” said Rep. Nancy Mace, RS.C. “Thankfully, this guy was stopped in his track by a brave law enforcement officer.”
The incident was because Boston officials, including Wu and Cox, attracted criticism from conservatives about implementing the sheltered city policy. Former City Council candidate Catherine Vitale told Fox and Friends last week that she believes Wu “doesn’t care” about Boston’s crime.
“There are a lot of crimes almost every day. We don’t always hear them, but we hear them because we’re there. I don’t think most crimes are actually not even reported. People aren’t arrested.”

WU is expected to become one of four Democratic mayors this week, who plans to testify before Congress Asylum policy.
