Gov. JB Pritzker and 16 Illinois Democrats send letters White House Russell, director of the Office of Management and Budget, involved Tuesday the Trump administration’s release of $18 billion in federal funds to Illinois. Illinois President Republican Party Kathy Salvi sees it as Pritzker playing politics.
Pritzker, Sen. Dick Durbin, Sen. Tammy Duckworth and Congressional Democrats said in the letter that Illinois “has a need to restore its funds, which have not yet been restored, and have a dangerous impact on vulnerable people, local economies, and the state and the country as a whole.”
The Republican Party in Illinois is postponing Democratic claims, saying the letter “has no basis.”
“Governor Pritzker’s 2028 campaign for president is not focused on the chaos he left in Illinois. Because of his former governor, he is now increasing his budget from the initial $39 billion budget to a $55 billion budget in his seventh budget speech.”

Fox News Digital is related to OMB about the letter, but they did not comment before the deadline for this article.
“On behalf of our voters, we are seeking full transparency and accountability for all funds suspended or interrupted. If the Trump administration fails to comply with the law and maintain the end of their deal, the people of our country should know.”
“He has ignored the law from day one,” Salve retorted. “It’s a refuge. He has caused us high crime rates. He has caused the educational chaos we’ve encountered here in Chicago. He hasn’t helped the solution here. He is distracted and uses his weight in Washington to pose against the president and his administration’s agenda in order to run for his own 2028 presidential campaign.”
Pritzker also met with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries in Washington, D.C. this week to push for the release of federal funds in Illinois.
“His trip to Washington dispersed the chaos he brought in Illinois,” Salvey said.
Pritzker asked for “blank checks” and not “where to check money,” Salvi said.
“Prizk’s budget plan faces a $3 billion budget deficit. He has been put on hold for the past four years. Now, he is in custody and we need results,” Salvi said.

A federal judge approved a preliminary injunction on Tuesday White House Federal funding freezes from the Office of Management and Budget. A federal judge had previously issued a temporary restraining order to prevent funds from being frozen.
Illinois is one of the 22 states. Washington, DCprosecution President Donald TrumpThe government will end federal funding on January 28. OMB directed agencies to stop federal funding on January 27 under Trump’s execution order.
Gov. Josh Shapiro sued the Trump administration for enlightening federal funds on February 13 in another lawsuit. Shapiro said $2.1 billion in federal funds have been released and restored to Pennsylvania. Shapiro said legal action must be taken to untie the state’s federal funds, but added that his “direct engagement” to the Trump administration has led to the recovery of those funds.

Pritzker’s letter urged the Trump administration to “comply with the law and be good at the administration’s commitment to paying hard-earned taxpayers to Illinois’ economy, workforce and community.”
The letter claimed that since the OMB’s fund freeze memorandum, many Illinois agencies have been forced to “suspend operations, cancel projects or lay off employees” and reported that “they are unable to obtain funds.” The letter said that since January 27, there have been “extensive reports of system disruptions and shutdowns that have prevented grantees from obtaining funds.”

“Communication with government contacts is often overlooked, and the public statements from the White House are inconsistent with our grantees’ experiences,” the letter said.
Illinois Democrat Claiming “14 state agencies, boards and commissions have a total of $1.88 billion in affected federal funds” that “provides technical assistance to small businesses, affordable solar energy for low-income residents, improves roads and bridges, and more.”
“These funds have been contractually agreed, allocated and planned by the recipient, which includes child care providers, educational institutions, small businesses, communities and economic development organizations, and more. Needless to say, the restrictions on these funds will limit these funds to those vulnerable, local economies, local economies, and the country as a whole.
The letter ended with the request that the Trump administration answer five questions by March 4, 2025, involving expenditures on federal funds.
