Jeff Bezos’ space company Blue Origin is preparing for the second launch of the new Glenn Mega-Rocket in “late spring”, which Announce on Monday. The company also believes it has determined why the booster phase failed during its first flight in January.
Blue Origin said it has identified “seven corrective measures” during the failure of the review booster, Require by the Federal Aviation Administration. These are mainly focused on “propellant management and engine bleeding control improvements.” The company said it has submitted all this information to the FAA.
New Glenn is Blue Origin’s first rocket that can enter orbit on Earth. The company also hopes to use it to further enter space. Proving these features – and showing that the Rockets can be executed repeatedly – is key to competing Blue Origin with SpaceX, which currently dominates the launch market.
The 320-foot rocket has been in development for many years and is facing many delays. Blue Origin finally tested it in January. The Rockets successfully entered orbit in the second phase, but the three engines of the booster did not receive proper re-lighting when they returned to Earth, the company said on Monday. Blue Origin said it will try to boost the landing again during New Glenn’s second test flight.
