Bill Belichick had a “Welcome to College Football” moment on Monday night North Carolina Tar Heels Blasted by the TCU Horned Frog of 48-14, the 2025 college football season began.

It was a night of expectations, celebrity appearances and pure hype as Belichick’s first taste of college football coaching was first on the family sods of Chapel Hill. Tar Heels hope to attract a new era with a win, not only to first place another game under Belichick’s resume, but also to get the program going in the right direction from the jump.

But, Horned Frog comes to mind another thing because they are confused by over 50,000 screaming crowds, including Randy Moss, Michael JordanRoy Williams, Lawrence Taylor and more.

The Belichick era began with an impressive opening touchdown in North Carolina as Tar Heels blocked the first score of the season with Caleb Hood blocking the first score of the season.

But all afterwards were TCU, and scored 41 unanswered points on the road to an easy victory.

Tom Brady

Horned frog Quarterback Josh Hoover is strengthening the tar heels defense, which started with a 27-yard strike against Jordan Dwyer, who has been a favorite in the pass game, with his touchdown tied up the game by seven-seven.

TCU has become more physically defensively, especially on the line of scrambling, which hinders what UNC wants to do when it has it. The Horned Frogs won them three consecutive victories while leading by a goal early in the second quarter.

North Carolina seemed to have recovered its momentum when Hoover’s pass was too high to accept his expected receiver, while Tar Heels’ Kaleb’s cost had an acrobatic interception to flip the field.

But UNC quarterback Gio Lopez sent the ball back to TCU, the worst way to do it as veteran safety Bud Clark jumped a route and brought a 25-yard interception shot to the house for a 17-7 hit. The Horned Frog will end halfway with a short shot, leading into the locker room 20-7 as the crowd was shocked.

That feeling won’t end, though, as the first game of the second half was a 75-yard touchdown run by the Horned Frog star running back to Kevorian Barnes, who was unwavering, who broke the game without wavering the right side.

UNC could not come back then, as the Horned Frog continued to run, the running Trent Battle rushed for 28 yards for 34-7, while Lopez was fired by Jonathan Bax, who led his Horned Frog teammate Devean Devean to dig out the smoke football and ran for 37 yards on 37 yards.

At that time, Belichick swapped quarterbacks with Max Johnson, who led the touchdown drive later in the third quarter, adding some points to the tar heels. But the game is out of reach and it’s clear that the tar heels can work hard to move into next week.

Meanwhile, Hoover showed up in front of many NFL scouts, 274 yards for 36, two touchdown passes and one interception. Barnes had 11 carrys for a total of 113 yards, while Dewell dragged 136 yards at nine receptions to help TCU’s career.

No one wants Belichick to turn the program around immediately and get them to compete for a national championship, but it is a shocking result that can dominate at home to start his college coaching career.
