iPhone air may attract most attention Today’s Apple Eventbut “regular” iPhone 17 It is a lot of people who are loyal to iOS. This year’s new model may not look like an overhaul, as the design is mostly the same, but don’t let you fool you. The company has upgraded the display to include promotions and a 120Hz refresh rate. There’s more power under the hood, ready to take advantage of all the features Apple Intelligence and iOS 26 offer. Plus, it takes eight hours of battery life and charges faster when needed. And I haven’t even mentioned the camera update, which is highlighted by the center stage front camera.
With the introduction iPhone AirApple cuts the iPhone 17 Plus. Now, if you’re primarily concerned with size, you can decide between the 6.3-inch iPhone 17, 6.5-inch iPhone Air, or 6.9-inch iPhone 17 Pro Max (and 6.3-inch Pro). I was worried that the company would give us a 6.1-inch base iPhone, which was a phone I felt very small after finally getting used to the iPhone 16 Plus. I’m happy to report that the iPhone 17 bridges the gap well, and I don’t think the smaller “regular” models will put pressure on my subtle sensitivity.
At first glance, the real star of this year’s show is the main upgraded display on the iPhone 17. Not only is it a little bigger, it now has a 120Hz refresh rate and supports Apple’s promotional technology. The difference between this new model and my iPhone 16 Plus is obvious. The colors are more vivid, the details are clearer, and more pleasing. Of course, I couldn’t come up with the exact point that the upgrade offers in a quick demo, but after my first glance at the phone, I was impressed.
I could also briefly try out the new center stage front camera in the lobby outside the Steve Jobs Theater. There are other camera updates on the iPhone 17, but this is the most beneficial for most people. As more and more people enter the frame of selfies, it automatically changes direction and, most importantly, it really quickly without any annoyance or lag. It worked well on the multiple attempts I’ve observed, and it’s one of the few new features I’m looking forward to further testing.
In addition, dual capture, the ability to record lenses from both the rear and front cameras at the same time, is perfect for recording reaction videos. A busy demo area outside of Apple’s keynote wasn’t the most exciting place, but the place where I was able to see the upcoming afternoon of youth sports.
We will have to wait for our full review to dive into the rest of the new features on the iPhone 17, but after my first introduction, I expect this to be the most powerful annual update in a few years.
