As part of the iOS 18.4 software update, Apple has introduced an AI-driven summary of the App Store reviews in public beta. The new feature will take advantage of the company’s built-in AI technology, Apple Intelligence, to provide a summary based on comments others left on the App Store.
A review summary will be generated by the Big Language Model (LLM) and key information will be highlighted into short paragraphs, Apple’s website explains. The summary will also be refreshed weekly for apps and games with enough reviews, although Apple hasn’t said what the threshold is.
App Store users can click and keep comments to report any issues with the feature, while app developers can remind Apple to fix the issue through App Store Connect.
The AI Summary will be first in English and will later launch all applications in a sufficient number of other markets and languages over the year. It will also be available in iPados 18.4.
This function first discovers MacWorld In recent beta versions, unethical app developers may be encouraged to drown their ratings in fake comments left by bots or other paid comments and comments left by other paid comments for their features or game.
While unfortunately, this kind of thing is already common practice in the application industry (or, in fact, on any website that provides product reviews), adding an AI summary can make the problem worse. Consumers may start relying too much on the review summary itself rather than reading more closely through all the benefits and bad reviews.
The feature also tests Apple AI’s ability to carefully extract and parse any negative comments or concerns from the App Store reviews and highlight them for customers in these AI summary.
Apple isn’t the only technology giant looking for AI to analyze reviews. Amazon introduces AI summary for product reviews On the platform in 2023. Google’s Gemini AI can also be used in product review summary as A developer tutorial explanation. The company also added AI-driven comment summary Last year in Google Maps.
Although AI Summary is now available for beta testers with the latest versions (iOS 18.4, beta 2 and iPados 18.4, beta 2), the feature will be covered in April when new software is pushed to everyone in April.
Other expected features include a set of extended Apple Intelligence languages supported, access to EU users’ Apple Intelligence, access to the iPhone 15 Pro’s visual intelligence, Siri’s new control center option, and a AI-driven features to prioritize important notifications To others.
