He said after the event: “I’ve been through everything in the past few years and here, I’m very excited to have a chance to win.”
Cabrera was sentenced to jail for threatening and harassing his two ex-girlfriends. He was released on parole in August 2023 and was released PGA Tour Champion Events later that year.
After he told Golf Digest, he embarrassed his behavior from prison and asked his ex-girlfriend for forgiveness.

“I repent and embarrassed,” Cabrera said. “I made a serious mistake. I refused to listen to anyone, do what I wanted, the way I wanted and what I wanted. That was wrong. I sought forgiveness from Michira. I sought forgiveness from Celia. When I was in the worst state, they and I crossed my misfortune. I was not a devil, but I did bad things.”
Cabrera will compete in the Masters later this week as the champion has a lifetime waiver.
“I can’t wait to see him,” 2013 Masters champion Adam Scott said on Sunday at Augusta National. “It’s a happy thing for me. We have a long history. I first met him on the European tour before both of us played on the PGA Tour. We played the Presidents Cup and we have been partners.”
