Kelly Clarkson The famous winner of the first season of “American Idol” has since become one of its most successful winners, but she had no idea what she signed.
In a recent interview with the Kylie Kelce podcast,Don’t lie“The 42-year-old singer shared what she didn’t know she was doing until the audition process later.
“For all of us in the first season, we didn’t…I didn’t even know it was a TV show until my third audition,” she explained. “Like, we were actually trying to pay the bill. We were like, ‘Oh, that could work. I might meet someone or someone else.’ No one knows it would be credited to anything.”
She went on to explain that when she was in the race as 19, the only thing she thought about was the possibility of making enough money to “pay my electricity bill” or being able to “afford the deductions on the car that I can’t afford.”

“If I had sang on Idols now, 20 years ago, they would have sounded better now. I’m OK, but it’s like you’re a better singer because you have the time and experience and I already have the time,” she said. “They don’t have the artist stuff anymore. I just said, I sounded different from the sounds that were then.”

When Kelce told her, “You were great at that time,” Clarkson replied, “I disagree. I saw it, and I was like, ‘How did I win?’ It made me sweat and think.”
Then, the “stronger” singer explains how lonely it is to be the first winner, saying “I don’t have anyone… it’s hard.” While she didn’t name any, she shares people in the industry “really mean” and “annoying talent show.”

“They don’t like it,” she told Kells. “Genius shows that this has caused this storm in the industry. It’s a very incredible thing in a large-scale industry in the industry. There are a lot now.”

“People like us were there in that audition process and were just instantly judged, maybe not your best performance, but you know you can do better … it’s a hard thing, and it’s incredible in many ways,” Clarkson said. “I think these artists are under a lot of pressure, and I think a lot of artists who sell a lot of records can handle it. That’s another thing.”
