A good Samaritan, police and district animal control retrieved a small crocodile found on the Washington Channel near the dock earlier this week.
The little crocodile was found on the channel on Thursday. A bystander in the area captured him with a net.
Phoenix Norwood, 23, told WRC-TV, adding: “I saw him there and they tried to get it and then he splooshed back into the water.
Metropolitan Police Department personnel responded to the scene and handed over the reptiles to animal control, police explain On social media.
The crocodile was spent Thursday night under the care of the Brandy Valley SPCA of the contracted Animal Control Agency in the area and was then taken to the animal sanctuary, the group said on social media.
A Brandywine Valley SPCA spokesperson told WJLA-TV that the crocodile was taken to ANA small animal in Scranton, Pennsylvania. According to social media posts, the shelter is named Reptiles, which is allegedly a “bringing” for women.
Officials did not disclose how they thought the crocodile was on the Washington Channel, or where it might have been originally from. According to WRC-TV, it is illegal to own crocodile in the region, Maryland and Virginia.
