House Armed Forces Chairman Mike Rogers told Fox News that space will be the “spear tip” in the next conflict between the United States and China or Russia, delaying the risk of establishing a secure headquarters for the U.S. Space Command.

“We have very proper defensive capabilities right now,” he said. “And we had offensive capabilities that we didn’t have at the time. So our opponents knew that if they were going to bother our space assets, we could wipe out all of them, so don’t.”

Strong said he respected colleagues in Colorado but believed the debate had been long enough. “Huntsville is the right winner and I will defend them in one last breath,” he said.

Both lawmakers noted that the Government Accountability Office report found that the Mobile Space Command would save $462 million to Redstone.
Meanwhile, a Pentagon Inspector General report confirmed that while the Air Force prefers Huntsville based on cost, Spacecom Leaderslion warns that moving will involve preparedness risks rather than at least four years to build secure facilities in Alabama, and that many civilian workers can leave their jobs.
