For nearly 40 years, my family has felt unbearable sadness over the brutal murder of my husband, DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. Kiki is a devout father, a loving husband and a dedicated DEA agent whose life is to protect American citizens from cruel drugs Cartel. He believes in justice, fights for the right things, and makes the world safer. But in 1985, when Kiki was murdered in the most terrible way, America lost its hero.
In February of that year, Kiki was kidnapped by Guadalajara Cartel. He suffered hours of torture – beaten by cigarettes and burned. Rafael Caro Quintero and another Cartel The kidnapper refused to put him in a coma, injecting drugs into him to keep him awake so that he would feel every ounce of cruelty.
We insist on hoping he can go home. When he found his body, this hope was broken and abandoned his life as if it had no meaning. But Kiki’s life and his sacrifice – symbolizes something, but it still does. So for 40 years, my family and I have been working hard to make sure that his death is not futile.
Justice has long been out of reach, as Rafael Caro Quintero and other cartel members responsible for the impunitive murders in Kiki’s murder. They built a huge criminal empire, flooded our streets with fentanyl, and caused damage on them. Cartel It is a violent organization that does not care about human life. They profit from evil – through drug smuggling, human trafficking, intimidation of innocent people and countless other terrible crimes. Yet, they have been operating without facing the full weight of American law for decades.
It was in July 2022, after years of hiding, Rafael Caro Quintero Finally arrested in Mexico. Unfortunately, at the time, the U.S. government did not try to make him pay for his crimes. But once President Trump is re-elected, we are once again full of hope. We know that he believes in our cause, and we believe that he will keep his promise to hold the cartels accountable for their heinous crimes.
On his first day in office, President Trump bravely issued an executive order to designate the Mexican cartel as a foreign terrorist organization. This classification is not just a legal tool, it is an awareness of the horror these groups have caused to Americans like my husband. More importantly, it helps cut off financing for the cartel and its support network, as the title of terrorists allows families like me to seek justice in court.
My family and I filed a lawsuit against the man who murdered my husband after Quintero was extradited to the United States earlier this month. For nearly four decades, as he awaits a criminal trial in the United States, we hope that those responsible for my husband’s death will truly be held accountable.
I hope the cartel that killed my husband pays for his crimes. But what about families who have lost their loved ones due to cartel violence and are still waiting for justice? I yelled because I wanted to inspire other families to act as well.

President Trump has slashed the paths of many families to seek justice by putting several Mexican cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, but not for everyone. If the government expands the list of foreign terrorist designations, families like me (like those who have lost loved ones) will be responsible for their crimes. In particular, nine U.S. citizens (including six children) in Lamora, Mexico, against the Juárez and La Línea cartels of the 2019 brutal massacres, are Mexico’s most dangerous cartels and should be the first ones to be the most dangerous cartels.

My Battle – The Battle of Chiki – did not end with Quintero’s arrest or this lawsuit. President Trump stands with us. His administration could add Juárez, La Línea and other cartels to the list of horror names to protect and provide justice to more Americans. We should attribute it to Kiki and thousands of other victims in honor of the lives that have lost their lives to the safer actions of our nation.
For 40 years, I have been waiting for justice. Now, I am determined to make sure that every American victim of cartel’s ruthless cruelty and terrorism is given the justice it deserves.
