A16Z SpeedRun announced the opening application for its upcoming event, SR005, the fifth edition of its signature event. The 12-week startup SpeedRunning is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles on July 28, with A16Z planning to invest $1 million in each selected company. The event climaxed on a demonstration day held on October 7 during SF Tech Week. Applications for the program will be closed on May 11.
SpeedRun participants usually include participants in AI and interactive spaces, and their projects can include tools, experiences, games, and entertainment. According to A16Z, less than 1% of applicants can secure a seat, but those who do not only get monetary investments in A16Z, but also receive personalized feedback from the team, as well as other industry mentors, consultants and a network of alumni for the program. The company also reported that it has deployed more than $100 million to more than 120 startups since 2023.

The A16Z provides details of the previous SR004 cohort, which has 42 companies from over 6,000 applicants. 69% of selected people are local in multiple verticals, including business, development and storytelling. The cohort also features founders from several countries including Canada, Israel, Türkiye, London and Sweden.
