If you’ve ever logged on United Airlines flight, Your journey is likely to be quietly directed by a large team working behind the scenes, away from the airport and even further from the public’s eyes.

The team is headquartered at United Airlines Network Operations Center (NOC), a command center located on 24/7 Chicagoexperts supervise nearly 5,000 flights per day.

The facility has more than 2,000 employees in 26 departments, from flight dispatch and crew arrangement to weather and aircraft maintenance coordination.

Together, they monitor and manage joint global actions, including departure and arrival Major airport hubs.

“What you see before you is really where our global operations are under control,” said Harel Magaritz, managing director of NOC Daily Operations, during the center’s behind-the-scenes tour.

Magaritz said the work is about constant coordination and expecting surprises.

“It’s about knowing that anything around the world can happen at any given moment,” he said. “Everything that could ruin the flight – our job is to collect that information and then convey it to the scene.”

This includes everything from mechanical issues to weather delays to crew members.

One of NOC’s most critical teams is the internal meteorological department, led by Nathan Polderman, senior manager of meteorology. His team is responsible for issuing cross-weather forecasts Manchester United’s networkand mark any events that may delay or ground flight.

“In some cases, we have two or three hubs for thunderstorms on the same day,” Polderman said. “So, you can imagine that it will keep the weather team very busy.”

According to Polderman, two forecasters spend the night every day, and up to four meteorologists can accumulate during the day. Flight dispatchers use their predictions to decide how or if a flight should be conducted.

“The turbulence, icy, harsh weather at the destination airport, and if anything happens to the flight, the dispatcher will coordinate that,” Padman said.

Magaritz said the goal is simple: Keep flight safe and move smoothly until passengers even realize there is a problem.

“It’s the level of comfort to know you’re not there,” Margaret said. “You’re not just buying tickets, hoping you get to where you’re going. The entire team and thousands of people work in the backstage.”

The joint officials also stressed how important it is to receive real-time updates from airports across the country to make the entire network operate seamlessly.

A United Airlines leader said the work was about continuous coordination and expected surprises.
