Italian skier Matteo Franzoso Officials confirmed this week that he died a few days before his 26th birthday in a crash while training in Chile.
this Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) A statement confirmed the death of 25-year-old Franzoso, who crashed during a training session in La Parva, about 30 miles outside Santiago, Chile, and was injured on Saturday.

According to officials, Franzoso hit a fence while trying to jump. He was “immediately” by an air ambulance and taken to an intensive care unit where he was placed in a medically induced coma.

Fisi said on Monday that he died from head injuries and brain edema. His 26th birthday is Tuesday.
“It’s a tragedy for the family and our movement,” FISI president Flavio Roda said in a statement. “It’s a tragedy that brings us back to the mentality of the death of Matilde Lorenzi less than a year ago.”

Italian skier Matilde Lorenzi died less than a year ago in October 2024 Falling during training. She is 19 years old.
“It is absolutely crucial to do everything possible to ensure that this kind of incident never happens again,” Roda’s statement continued. “In this sad and painful time, I want to tell all athletes and coaches in all sports that the Federation is around them in every sport and they will find all the support they need. I ask for the greatest respect for Matteo’s family and we will be intimate in all the ways necessary.”

Franzoso won the Super G match in the second season of the Europa Cup in 2021 and finished fourth in the downhill race at the 2020 World Youth Championship. His best World Cup result was ranked 28th in Cortina d’Ampezzo’s Super-G in January 2023.
Franzoso trained in the Italian team’s outstanding works Dominik Paris, Christof Innerhofer, Mattia Casse and other training ahead of the Milan-Cortina Olympics in February.
