Gutman said in that part of the exchange.
“But, that’s also a way that many of us didn’t expect to be touching,” Gutman said. “This relationship between the suspect’s roommate and the suspect himself is very close, and he repeatedly calls his roommate, who is transitioning to call him ‘my love’. And ‘I want to protect you, my love.””
The reporter continued: “I think I’ve ever been through a press conference where we read a text message, so rich and so powerful, obviously it’s allegedly self-prompt, but, on the other hand, the touch, right?”
He added that there is a “heartbreaking duality” about crime, referring to both Kirk’s assassination and Apparently romantic connection Between Robinson and his roommate.
On ABC News’ live broadcast platform, Gutman doubled, calling it “heartbreaking on many levels” and linking Kirk’s brutal murder to “portraits of very human beings.”

Gutman’s comments led to strong opposition on social media, prompting him to apologize on Wednesday.
After expressing regret that his words did not come out as expected, Gutman condemned the shooting and the pain it caused to Kirk’s family and his witnesses.
He wrote: “But let Zero doubt: I explicitly condemn this terrible crime and its cause to Charlie Kirk’s family, those who were forced to witness it at UVU and the millions he inspired.”
