Microsoft and Nvidia Plans to invest up to $45 billion in the UK economy have been revealed, a move that will strengthen the establishment of more data centers and research and development to AI.

As part of the deal, Microsoft has pledged to invest $30 billion over the next four years. The company claims it’s its largest financial commitment ever and will account for more than two-thirds of the total UK investment announced this week, which is the time of Trump’s visit.
“We focus on the pound, not the empty technology commitment,” Microsoft Vice Chairman and President Brad Smith told reporters in a virtual introduction before today’s announcement. “We will benefit every penny of this investment.” Smith claimed that half of that money will go to capital expansion – “all new funds, all new investments” and the other half will work to build a partnership with data center business NScale to fund and use its facilities.
For its part, NVIDIA has committed to spending up to $15 billion on AI-related R&D efforts in the UK. Chip manufacturers do not invest directly in building infrastructure, but instead act through their partners Coreweave and Nscale.
The announcement comes along with a new joint venture between Nvidia, Nscale and OpenAI, which plans to “enhance the UK’s sovereign computing capabilities” The AI ​​infrastructure partnership is called Stargate UK. Openai CEO Sam Altman and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang traveled to the UK with Trump during this week’s state visit.
“Stargate UK ensures OpenAI’s world-leading AI model can run on native computing power in the UK,” OpenAI said in a statement. OpenAI will deliver up to 8,000 GPUs in the first quarter of 2026, expanding it to 31,000 GPUs over time. As part of the agreement, Openai said NScale will significantly expand its capacity in many locations in the UK, including Cobalt Park in Newcastle, which will become part of the newly designated AI growth zone in the Northeast.
“This historic commitment from NScale shows how the UK can build the future of AI with our partners,” Nscale CEO Josh Payne said in a statement. “Only by building world-class AI infrastructure, we can stay competitive in the global competition.”
When asked to describe Microsoft’s relationship with NScale, Smith simply said: “We wrote the checks and they spent the money.”
Smith quickly claimed that the company had not received a request from the Trump administration to issue an investment announcement. “As you expect, we have had a lot of conversations with the UK government, including those with the 10th place, and it has been going on for months,” he said.
